		<description>Perhaps you can become a penpal to him?  Begin to build on this new(er) relationship with him?  Then, when the time is right, the two of you can revisit the past together and enjoy it all over again.  (Show him lots of pictures :-) )
Something tells me that the closeness you once shared cannot be lost, only known in a different flavor...

&lt;strong&gt; yes, his mom agreed to set up an email account for him so we could write. ironically i tried showing him pictures but couldn't find the album when he was here to show him. i agree, the closeness didn't go away permanently - it's just gone missing for a bit.
