Hey there Sarah,
looks as if you’ve been haiku-ing since I left. Good, faster for me to catch up .
Have to admit, haven’t quite found the passion for haikus but that’s probably because I haven’t researched them enough yet and don’t understand. Once in a while I find one that touches me and if there is a writer who is able to do that it’s you.
Good to be back…… hope you are well.
hey there spaz! welcome back. how was your trip?
yes, the haiku bug has taken hold of me. it started out as a lark and now i find i really enjoy the challenge of putting an entire concept into 17 syllables. you should give it a whirl, i think you will find you have a flare for it yourself.
by the way, i think your spam filter has been feasting on my comments - i’ve made a couple but they seem to have disappeared.
sarah
Nice! I’m really enjoying your haiku, and I also really liked the pun in the title for this one! oh thanks, mark! lol - i’m glad someone caught the pun. it seemed a stroke of brilliance at the time. sarah
Sarah,
I had tons of spam when I got back, I always check before I delete, but since there were so many I might have missed yours.
Too bad, and sorry about the trouble.
My trip was great, it seemed like another world, not one worrisome or stressing thought all week. More later…..
i’ll bet you did have tons of spam - after a week it must have been stacked to the rafters. don’t worry about the comments - there was nothing irreplacable about them.
i envy you, your week of no worries or stress. glad you enjoyed yourself.
sarah
That is as perfect as a poem gets! I am too wordy. I need to start trying haiku.
wow, thank you. can’t get any better than perfect. oh do try the haiku - there is something a little addictive about it. the challenge is great. i’m still not quite over it yet.

Sarah, bonjour!
I noticed (belatedly) that you put this post under “Freedom isn’t free”.
I wonder what you think of the line in “Me and Bobby McGee”: “Freedom is just another word for nothing to lose…”
Cheers,
Robert-Gilles
it’s funny you should mention that - as that has always been one of my favorite songs - especially the janis joplin version. however, when you really examine that lyric, even in the context of the song, it simply doesn’t make sense. unless it means that once you have become completely apathetic about it life, it no longer matters. as well as the fact that i am no longer a naive and idealistic teenager any more. when you’re young, you can blithely be anti-war and anti everything because you truly don’t undertand that there are in fact consequences for inaction. so no, freedom isn’t free - despite what many may believe - if you want something beautiful in this world to survive you must be willing and able to deal with and if necessary use force. that’s what i believe in the current context of life anyway.
sarah
( my sense was wrong - there was no sarcasm intended by my reader - apologies. and thank you so much for the compliment which i was too stupid to recognize.
sarah )
Did you edit the title of this haiku? If you didn’t then it’s incredible how my own brain tricks me. I’ve looked at this entry more then once and have always read it as ‘thank you’. I saw Mark M’s comment and even tried to figure out how ‘thank you’ was a pun, and it wasn’t until today that I actually realised it. And I am so tired as I have had a 17 hour day so far….
Re ‘Me and Bobby McGee’ (Janis’ version is my favourite too) although I haven’t listened to it in a long time and don’t off hand recall all the words, to me it always made perfect sense. Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to loose in itself explains that Freedom (total freedom that is) does not exist, as any human always has something to loose unless he or she is dead inside. Which is what you were saying anyway….. I think… no, i didn’t edit the title. it always said ‘tank you.’ and i suppose that is the point is that it would trick the mind into seeing that extra letter.
yes, that was what i was saying - that if you’ve nothing to lose then you are dead - at least inside as you point out.
love

Somehow it reminds me of a little league pitcher facing Barry Bonds.
excellent analogy, evyl. yes, yes it does.

Just standing Ovation!
The best Haiku I have read in recent times!

An eloquent observation on the sheer stupidity and ignorance thriving in the Middle East.
The picture is a perfect illustration.

why tank you, michael my dear.

This made me smile
but I’m not so sure I should be.
again, i was inspired by the picture. but i’m glad it made you smile - pointing out irony is okay sometimes, i think.
