The Sad Funnies

it’s a sad funny
that gets my laughs
that makes me step back
to see how obtuse
is my life
and turns the corners
of my mouth
upward.

yet my spirit
hovers closer to the earth
neither rising nor descending
owning its position
over the fence
that prevents the decision
from making itself

for now
the sad funnies
will have to suffice
until the big bright
world comes back
into view and smacks me
around a little

I hate when my life is in a dismal holding pattern.
The winds of change do eventually sweep in and lift me. Usually when I least expect it.
    Love the picture.

yes, the holding pattern, to a writer, i think is the kiss of death. - i loved the picture too, it seemed to show what i was feeling.

Need an English translation for that expression, (unless you know German?), well, I guess in a way, you’ve already said it with your sad funny. Same thing really, just much longer and harder to pronounce word….. it seems it’s the time of year for that holding pattern too, don’t you think?
As long as we don’t run out of fuel, all is well. Thanks for the lovely poem Sarah.

forgive me, spaz - at first i thought you were making fun of me. and yes i would need a translation since i barely speak english much less german. ;)
for me, it isn’t the time of year this time - it just seems to be my turn right now, as far as the holding pattern is concerned. if that makes any sense.

thanks as always spaz for your loyal support.

Oh Miss Sarah, you’ve gone and outdone yourself this time. Very melodic, absolutely beautiful. I love it. ~KIM

thanks kim. you may be surprised to learn that in an odd, g-tortional sort of way, you were the inspiration for this poem. your comment about being depressed and then noticing you were wearing black. i laughed and said to myself that is a sad funny, and then the rest is history (as they say)

Well, I’m happy to help, plenty of crazy where that came from :), seriously though I’m flattered, but Sarah the credit is all yours, that poem was fantabulous. My new favorite.

i love that word, fantabulous. thanks, dear.
