I know you love me
but you don’t like me
You’ve got plans
and getting me in
is a squeeze

I’ll give you credit
for trying
doing your duty
pretending

We’re strung together
through shared DNA
not the love
of closeknit spirits

A mishap
of mutual genes
a mish-mosh
of family ties

I know you love me
because you have to
but I wish
you knew me because
we were friends.
