Today

Today I woke up singing
without one single thought.
Have I finally found that thing
that’s had me in its knot?
The sound was so delightful
the words I didn’t know
And images of daffodils
were laughing in the snow
I wish I could remember
the words I sang today
For later times and future ryhmes
to hold my doubts at bay
Today I woke up singing
without that cold dull ache
I wonder when tomorrow comes
what sound my soul will make

Winter Morning

A sea of wrinkled blue and green
gathers in the unmade bed
And the morning’s Winter chill
scratches softly at the window
Trees, stark and naked
bow down to the wind
Coffee steams golden in my cup
rich and sweet upon my tongue
Thoughts gather like a woolen cape
against the bright and frigid day
Mind stark and naked
bows down to the words
