Oh Sarah, I, too, enjoyed this.
I was so happy that Gem was able to have other foster kids in her home. I felt bad for her after Sally left even though it was good for her to be with her Daddy, especially since he wanted her. The thing I liked most about this story was the fact that Gem was so quick witted and sharp. Her character was inspiring. The dialogue was great too.

    2 thumbs up!

    hi kimmie!
i’m glad you liked the story - it was interesting writing it and trying to get the point of view of both an old woman and a young child and the way in which they saw the world. i always enjoy letting my characters make their journeys, while i make the written record. thanks for reading.
    love,
    sarah

i was so sad when Sally left! Happy, too, but sad for Gem.
A good writer can create emotion in the reader, and you’ve done it.

i was so pleased with how the story of Gem ended.
Your settings were well described and i could feel the cozy in Gem’s home.
Also, i love making my girls cocoa from scratch.

    Good, good work.

    hi christine!
thanks so much for sitting still and reading the whole thing. i know it’s long but it refused to end at a manageable length. i’m glad you liked it, i value your opinion very much - sally and gem wiggled into my heart from nowhere but i think they are here to stay.

Sarah, thanks for asking about my son. He has stayed tremendously busy over there; and he’s set to leave on February 6th! Should make it back home on 2/10. His wife is counting the minutes!

lolly, i will pray for your son’s safe return. i know it must be very difficult for your entire family to know he is over there. but bless him that he stands the watch like so many others. i am in awe of those young men and women - they are the real american idols.
    love,
    sarah
