I’m not your Mom
so don’t stomp & cry
If my words
tell no lies.
Take it like-a man
as you always say
When you’re cursin’ the world
in your special way.
Double standards
don’t fly with me
and you call them out
when aimed at thee.
But when you find
the tables turned
You don’t get to cry
that you’ve been burned.
If you see yourself
in the words I write
Take a look,
don’t aim for flight.
If you can’t laugh
when you see yourself
Then something’s wrong
with your inner elf.
Being offensive,
defensive, reprehensive
Are all a part
of what is known as the brain FART.

Yes, life is going to be different
while color-blazed leaves
swirl-around me and the earth
begins a journey of annual sleep.
I am awake and alert
While summer dies and moves away from me
I am renewed -enlivened.
While doors shut and windows lock
my mind opens to something not yet named
but known somehow.
Not yet formed but familiar.
A hand waves from the window and I pass by -
beneath the cheer, returning the wave.
My steps echoing through the empty street.
And I think to myself, “Change is good.”

My mind wanders
and triple axels
through the cacaphony
of color and sun
heat and breeze
freet crunch
eyes roam
blue sky
comforts

Is the truth
in the blackness?
Or is it
simply
nothing wrapped
in nothing?

Looking for my future
within the rocky path
The sky reaches out
and sings its morning prayer
The sun hugs my soul
and pulls at my thoughts
Predator black birds crowd the view
searching hapless prey
Today, I am not their
victim.
