Island of Quiet

Posted at 10:02 am under Life, Poetry, original fiction, time in a bottle

The silence speaks
in haunting chants
shaking rafters with
thunderous prayers
embracing body and mind
with dark and tender
kisses of depth and solitude
I could float on
sacred thoughts and
drift the day through
to my island of quiet
my thoughts lapping at
unknown shores
and cresting to meet
the rocks of contrary
souls
enraptured by opinions
possessed by self
and uttered to no one.

First, i find “silence speaks” fantastic.
i honestly doubt the existence of pure and utter silence outside of death, though i can’t be sure. i’ve never been dead and no one who is dead has seen fit to prove or disprove my theory.

i love that souls has its own line.

The cadence and aural quality of your words contribute greatly to the haunting and peace of solitude.

This piece is very, very well done. i really love it.

    hi christine,
i don’t know what to say about ‘utter silence’ except that there are a moments, fleeting of course, when i can get there.

i’m so glad you like this piece, it is one of my favorites too because it did capture exactly what i was experiecing at the time - another rare occurence i’m afraid. thanks for reading.

When I catch up on your writing I feel revived and calm. You know I come here to meditate and escape into a soothing soft rainfall of thoughts. You never tire. You always satisfy. Simply Sarah. No substitute.

    It’s good to be “home.”

you’re so sweet, ali - no, i had no idea you came her to meditate - but of course, any time you want to, you are welcome. i’m glad i could do that for you somehow.

thank you - i’m surprised by the response to this one - it was one of those that just spilled onto the paper without thought.
