when
It’s hard to write when
you’re happy
The words insist
on laughing
The prose jumps
and winks
the meter sings
its own song
and things are too
sweet to chase after
them
The sky is too blue
(like your eyes)
the sun too bright
(like your eyes)
for inking thoughts
for stringing images
and shaping metaphor
Time doesn’t matter
details don’t care
The ether is clear
the road is open
the hills roll forward
and the path
leads us home
at last

I’m jealous. This is a fabulous gift and a great slice of life, like the sweetness of an orange. I love it.

hi kimmie,
jealous of what? sometimes things are right, you know?

Sarah, I have always found it quite a challenge to write when I am happy. For me I find it especially true in the rapture of new love, old love rekindled or even fulfilling friendships because when I am sharing that much of myself with another I feel much less of a need to communicate something of myself in a medium like this. But anyway you sure have done a fine job here of communicating joy poetically. Am I to assume that has been why we have heard less from you lately? If so I am so happy for you. But it’s bitter-sweet because I miss reading more from you. I hope that doesn’t sound terrible. As always, thanks for sharing.

hi wayne,
i’m always happy to see your name in the comment box. yes, it is a challenge to write when you’re happy because you are flowing that creative energy to life itself, don’t you think? all good. happy. writing. yes? i admit i have working on other things these last few weeks - more about that later though.
that you want to read more of my work would never sound terrible to me, and i thank you for that.
sarah
because I do know exactly what you mean.
that’s what.
I hope the emoticon shows up this time.
Supposed to be a wink.
anyway, have a great weekend, s.

the weekend was delightful.

A happy piece!
Indeed, it’s harder to write when things are doing great. I guess, when we are happy, the words are out too, basking in the sun, picking meadow flowers, or simply dancing with the wind. They’re difficult to chase or to string together.
hi sherma,
and i couldn’t have said it better myself, so i will just say, ‘ditto’

Hi sarah,
What lovely happy words and feelings. I’m smiling as I know the feeling of that happiness that holds our words.

I really can feel the joy in “When”, I smiled and felt blissful. Thank You. I agree with Wayne and Brainteaser that happy moments are sometimes too intense to jot down or describe. But here it is, very Yours, and what a joy to read. If I could shake your hand, I would. TC always.
tom,
what lovely comments - thank you, very much. they mean a lot to me. i too, would like to shake your hand. happy is a good thing, it really is, isn’t it?
