cigarettes & cell phones
sultry summer sky
random thoughts
of filmy futures
followed the butterfly’s
path of
lazy nectar search
basketball hoops
snoring dogs
i slept in today
and the world
didn’t stop
the silence
was comfort
my mind
hummed soft
in pastel colours
and gentle souls
flitted by in
mutual affirmations
time does not
touch me today
the sun freckles
my shoulders
and birds
have their own
language
that whispers
to children
& oldsters
as it dances
past on
the breeze

Hi Sarah,
/what I love about your poetry is the sense of realism that depicts the essence of daily life- especially these lines in your poem…
“time does not
touch me today
the sun freckles
my shoulders
and birds
have their own
language
that whispers
to children
& oldsters
as it dances
past on
the breeze..”
enjoyed reading,
thank you, ljane. i believe that everyday life is its own magic - if you look you’ll see it.

I can feel the sweaty warmth of the sultry summer day and the comfort in the humming silence. Summer days do hum, don’t they? The gentle souls flitting past remind me of summers past where there is still an echo of spirits and energy left today. You’re right there is something touchless and timeless about summer. Beautiful! Clearly your spirit is at work here and it is at peace somewhere inside you.
yes, there are moments when the peace finds me. i love those moments.
