Father’s Day 15

When I walk through the stores and see the cards
my heart bends
a little
my smile fades
tears fight to free themselves
but I keep them captive
Pancake breakfasts
and prime tickets to sports events
bad neck ties
awful gadgets that have no use
hokey hats
bought in the millions
to honor them all.
Fathers.
No gift shop
for where you are
where I think you are
just words from my heart
to yours
just memories
fond memories
flashes of moments freeze-framed
and eternal

I’m not even going anywhere near the card-stands. I can’t do it.
This was a wonderful poem and I know exactly what you mean.

hi kat,
i agree - it’s best to avoid those types of things - it’s too much for one heart to bear. i think you do know exactly what i mean. thank you.
