Sarah Flanigan - Poetry Simply Put

I gave my love
a Christmas tree
and trimmed it up
real nice.

In hopes that
he would see
that I deserved
the ice.

I strung it full
with tiny lights
and ornaments
of gold.

So he would really
set his sights
on something
rather bold.

Beneath the tree
I stacked the gifts
to make his eyes
go wide.

To raise his heart
to the cliffs
so his joy
could not hide.

He held me close
and kissed my cheek
and grinned
so very big.

But when I looked
and took a peek
I saw that he
was just a pig!

No engagement ring
did I find
beneath my
glorious tree

But rather just
some non-stick pots
which I threw at he….

Who broke my heart
and made me sad
on this Christmas day -
by giving me a gift
so bad
that I will make
him pay!
