The Enemy

Words
the enemy
cutting
fresh blood and
new bruises
Shining the
light
darkly
on the mess
that is
Me
Gouging
fairy
tales
and happy
endings
Laughing at
self-deceit
Crying
I catch them
scratching at
mind
begging entry
to
wreak
wicked
schemes
Promising to
behave
and splash
beautiful
images across
pages
In the last
moment
they dash to
their own freakish
nightmare
and drag me
screaming
along with
Them.

Serenade of Lies

We are all the same
Individuality
Bad for the machine.

Tears

Sad woman cries soft
Blue oceans of tears over
Lover no longer.

The Edge

Flying out on the edge of the universe
looking down,
trying to make some sense
but sense doesn’t make.

It’s so damned quiet up here
don’t know what to think
I’m not scared
but I’m not happy either.

Got to get over the
edge
over the edge of
the universe
get beyond the boundaries
beyond the walls
but if I do,
I won’t come back
maybe…

Would you miss me
if I didn’t?

Fancy

Caught in a fancy
of daydreams and chances
trapped in a vision
of you.

Dazed with the dancing
of heart strings and stanzas
and perfect clear-sky
of blue.

I want an answer
to the question I’ve asked
I’m out on the edge
of my dreams

Is it perchance sir
that you’re on the last
of your many magnificent
streams?

We wear our masks
and join in the folly
of those who need
nothing more.

Artistic our tasks
but constant we’re calling
for angels to walk through
our doors.

Send me your secret
give me your story
I’ll keep it safe
to the last.

I’ll make words befit
your pain and your glory
and together we’ll
forget the past.

Writer at Work

Hello. I hope you enjoyed your holiday and it was what you wanted it to be.

I have a few new stories I will be working on over the next few days - so I will be a little bit scarce. I promise not to be gone long and hopefully when I return, they’ll be something new for you to read and enjoy.

In the meantime, be well, stay safe and count your blessings - they are all around you.

Much love,

sarah

Sarah Speaks

Well as many of you may know already, the last poem of the series has been posted. From Vision to Hero. I just wanted to say thanks very much to all of those who read and commented.

It was a special pleasure for me to share these poems with you, written so long ago and a piece out of my past. In fact, I wanted to say what joy I have derived from having this blog and being able to share my stories with you.

It was an experiment for me. I have been writing a long time and have accumulated a relatively large body of work. A body of work I had convinced myself no one would be interested in reading. How happy I am to have been wrong on that point. You have no idea how much it means to me that people actually come here to read my stories and poems.

So, I just wanted to say I am thankful for the gift of your readership. I am thankful for a forum to place my fiction. I am thankful that reading is still a pleasure alive and well.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving. And I hope I will see you afterwards.

Magician

Weave your merry spell
Magician!
Send it far
and wide
across this land.
Give back to the people
its magic.
Your magic.

Send it to
the darkest corner
deepest caves.
The lonliest, saddest places.
Bring it forth.
Stir it up well
in your black kettle.
Til it bubbles and brims
spills
over the hopelessness of
this land’s people.

Let it give wings
to the heaviest of hearts
and sorriest of souls.
Let it make again
the music which once abounded.
But is now
a faint echo to those of us
who remember.

Oh Magician
grow bigger
grow stronger.
Send your magic dust
to cover every part
every being.
Let babies be born again
into a world
of form and beauty.
Let them smile with
their first sight of it.

Let us not
the handful of artisans
left on this dusty rock
toil any longer
without hope
or promise.
Make us strong with
your web of knowledge
and light.

Let us help to
lead them out
of the caves of blindness.
Open their eyes
that they might see.
The wonder that is the Game.
The joy that is Life.

Anticipation

Anticipation
tapping out fingers
wracking brain
thoughts hurtling
by

Waiting -
always waiting
answers, questions
stories not told
verbs not
conjugated

Renegade
modifiers
hiding behind
old manuscripts
sniggering at me
pointing -
laughing out loud

This is my
nightmare
